fennec, wish I could put it in text, just too many variables. Great Britan has been hit harder than the rest of the EU but is going it’s own way with their own banking system. Spain is showing signs of unrest and Berlusconi, well. Even the Czech Government is in trouble. Germany and France are at odds with Brussels over policy, … There are so many commentaries about just pick the one that suits you. It will be a wild ride.

The views I get are sometimes filtered from the French papers, and as my French is VERY limited, I’m not always sure they print the same things in their English Web versions. The question about Germany that I keep wondering about and haven’t seen covered over here is whether there is still major friction over the re-unification and how that effects the various politicians.
This article in the International Herald Tribune titled, “Europe, aided by safety nets, resists stimulus push” puts an interesting spin on how well or badly Europe is fairing.
Dredpiraterobts - On Universal Healthcare ask the Veterans who have had to deal with the VA or US Public Health Service. In a post on another toon I mentioned that I was a victim of a meatball USPHS surgeon when I was in the US Coast Guard (USCG is too small to have its own medical branch), and carry a twelve inch scar from a gall bladder removal what was unnecessary. The same fellow wanted to amputate a friend’s leg (pulling strings got him referred to Bethesda and they removed a small piece of metal from when he was injured in VN), and he’s still got both legs. There are a great number of things that I would not want in the hands of the lowest paid bidder, and my remaining health is one of those!
