my husband was out walking last week and came home with a hand full of Buttercups. I put them in a small jar next to the sink in the kitchen and they actually lasted a week. My husband brings me flowers for no reason a lot, all store bought but these were very sweet.
I treasure the artificial rose my hubby bought me one year. It sits in a little vase on the entertainment cabinet in the living room and I think of him fondly as I walk past it on a daily basis.
This storyline pretty much describes the reason Americans are chronically short of cash. Why isn’t a gift a “gift” unless you pay someone else to make it?
My new guy is very thrifty and still has his mom nearby. Since he’s also good at writing, I gave him a few of the prettier empty cards (no message inside) that one of my charities sent me (he has mentioned that his mom gives to many, so I think she’ll appreciate even that), but as a mom, I KNOW she’ll love a personal card from him.

If my hubby ever brought home flowers through our now 33-year marriage I would go into shock. Now we have a tight budget I would feel waste of money.

I love homemade cards. Prefer them greatly over store-bought, which are both expensive and pretty much meaningless.
