Harley, some truth in your observation of the Iranian leadership’s mental but don’t place an entire cultre in a simplistic grouping. Think about it … even the longest jourey starts with the first step. PS Obama has no backbone!? He’s taking a first step. All W did was wear a dark suit and ask Uncle Dick.
harley you do have a fear of weakness or ego? We can argue until the cows come home about who owes what to whom form history’s mistakes, on both sides. Time to get a’ move on. I think it takes a lot of d@mn guts for the Pres to extend a hand in peace to see where this will lead. I’ll have to credit your concerns about the Iranian “Leadership” but there must be a “First Step” or are you planning on playing “last man standing”.
It’s a start, and is an important one. Like Humphrioes said, it takes guts to be the first one to extend the hand & see what happens. Now the pressure is on Iran.
PS harleyq - better step back an take a real look at the world. W trashed a lot of our military superiority and badly damaged our political prestige and integrity with his “my way or the highway” diplomacy. Pres Obama’s election alone has gone a good ways toward repairing some of that damage.I’ve watched AL Jazeera International and there’s a lot of respect for Pres Obama as well as for the US and economoc concerns we have. 1945 is a long time in the past we’re part of this world not it’s bully. I’ll respect the point you have about some of the governments of radical regimes not a entire culture though.
harley … “W kept us safe” is a fantasy touted by Karl Rove. W’s crew dropped the ball and we’re living under a greater threat than ever. I don’t mean from some sick-old cracpot hiding somewhere in the middle-east, if he even is alive, and fanitical followers. The US has business interests around the world that make very inviting targets. Sensation for fear is the goal not some gas station in Pungo Virginia.
Unique harleyq … which Pres are you talking about? You gave a perfect assessment of W’S tenure. As for the rest it sounds like the rambling of a frustrated man.
harley - W gutted our military, cut benefits, reduced current care, strained our resources with two badly-run wars (and it’s not like he wasn’t warned), and made us considerably less safe by ignoring the CIA’s experts (who said Iraq didn’t have WMDs) and giving millions of Iraqis and Afganis a real reason to join Al Queda – which has mushroomed in growth. Oh, yes, and alienated all the allies we needed. Remember, we needed to bribe Turkey to be an “ally?” That hardly makes us safer!
motive … please pardon the butt in but these things you’ve mentioned just don’t fit in with harleyq’s reconceived notions as to what’s happened in the past eight years or so.
