Sadly, all too true. While some action has been taken — Pope Benedict defrocked nearly 400 priests in two years, and Pope Francis is investigating ways to prevent anything similar happening again — it took too long for it to happen, and there are not enough priests in treatment or in jail (or both). Bernard Cardinal Law of Boston is still in Rome, apparently never to return to his home country. Catholics believe that faith is not enough; you must have both faith and good works, and this is represented in the Sacrament of Reconciliation (AKA penance) as well. Simply being sorry is not enough; you must act to prove your desire to become reconciled. As a Boston-area resident, I doubt many people here would feel sufficient action has truly been taken.

No, it hasn’t. The people who don’t understand religion but still use it as a weapon to control other did.

It’s OK, they went to confession after the rapes…

I’m a catholic and I agree with the new pope’s message of less about people’s bedrooms and more about poverty and human dignity…I just hope it’s not a façade. So hand over those accused!
