Judy, a British Navy ship's dog captured with her crewmates by the Japanese in World War II, was the only animal to be officially listed as a prisoner of war- she survived. In 1870, Alfred Ely Beach built a subway train under New York City that was propelled by a giant 50 ton fan!

The Mongols under Genghis Khan had some…interesting policies. They killed any and all peasants they came across, because they could not understand farming, nor why anyone would want to be a farmer in the first place. When they came to cities, if the city in question surrendered immediately, they spared everyone. If the city resisted, once it had fallen, the entire population was massacred and their heads thrown onto a pile outside of the city’s walls.

I think that the subway tunnel may still be there and accessible.
