    The split is within the population itself. Many Ukrainians on the western side of the country identify with Europe and want to join the EU. On the eastern side, many identify with with the old Soviet block and wish to remain in the Russia led Commonwealth of Independent States. Of course, Ukraine is of use to Putin, so he wants to continue to exert influence. One has to wonder if Ukraine will eventually go the way of Czechoslovakia.

    The Road Not Taken

    Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,And sorry I could not travel bothAnd be one traveler, long I stoodAnd looked down one as far as I couldTo where it bent in the undergrowth;

    Then took the other, as just as fair,And having perhaps the better claimBecause it was grassy and wanted wear,Though as for that the passing thereHad worn them really about the same,

    And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to wayI doubted if I should ever come back.

    I shall be telling this with a sighSomewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by,And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost

    I tell you what, the EU is a lousy seamstress. Well, ok, so the seams split once in a while and tempers fray but we don’t get one pocket invading Belgium enroute to occupying the other pocket anymore.
