Timing can make a difference, too. I had a decent GPA of 3.17 in college, with a degree in Accounting, but couldn’t find a job in Michigan, because when I graduated (1982) the unemployment rate in the state was at 20% and nobody was hiring accountants with less than 3 years of experience.
