The mere I thought about it, the more rotten it all seemed. If those guys I aw in the stores and on the street weren't really Santa's helpers, who WERE they? Countless questions swam in my mind: What were these imposters trying to accomplish? And, even more importantly. WHO ELSE KNEW? That Saturday, I went back to the department store to see the Santa. On his break, I followed him to the employee's lounge. I watched in wide-eyed terror as "Santa" shed his trappings -- revealing an ordinary, middle-aged bald guy! The horror of the scene spurred a sudden boldness within me, and I found myself confronting him! Claus: Hey! You're not really a Santa! You're a regular guy dressed up! Santa: Yeah, that's right, kid. I ain't no Santa. The store pays me to put on this get-up and it's ho-ho-ho all day. The job's good for extra booze money. Claus: B-but all those kids who believe! Does...does the real Santa know you're doing this?! Santa: Kid, don't ask any questions you don't want to know the answers to! Now, if you know what's good for you, you'll run home and forget you ever saw this! Next week: How deep do the murky waters of conspiracy run? My worst fears realized!

I ask again: what was this 1990 strip spoofing?
Malcolm Hall over 10 years ago
In 1990, many parents told their children there was a creature named Santa Claus. Really!

@kapock I’m curious too — who knows, but my guess is that there was one of those stories in the news cycle for a minute about, you know, some pop-psy authority warning about the damage caused by lying to your children at xmas, something like that. Happens every few years.

I wonder if the real Santa sees him sleeping in a drunken stupor.
