Having started the series the first time around the time that April came on the scene this is side of John I never saw until the reruns started.

Why is Elly even in the kitchen? A good woman trains her husband properly, making sure he does all the domestic chores as cleaning as well as the cooking, after he returns home from work.

Actually John intended to say it loud enough for her to hear the comment, not behind her back. Grab his paper and read it yourself and send him into the kitchen!

My honey and I pick on each other all the time, keeps things fresh and interesting. It’s all done in a playful manner. Like someone else pointed out, they were just laughing at John.

Liver stuff and olives mixed with fish sound pretty good to me. Even cheese stuff could be good.

Okay now i know for sure why i got hook on FBOFW after April birth and not before. I really don’t approved that nastiness toward one spouse. Good think it disappear later on. Then i could recognized my family. If we had been that disrepectful toward each other. We would not been togetther for 35 years…. And i’m in my late forties.

Elly must cook better than my mom. Mom couldn’t cook water without burning it, as evidenced by the pile of new looking tea kettles piled up in the basement — all with the bottoms burned out of them. (If mom didn’t burn out a tea kettle in three weeks, it was a record.)

I’m afraid I don’t understand how this is possible. I’ve had the same tea kettle for maybe 20 years and have never had a problem with the bottom burning because it whistles — LOUDLY and ANNOYINGLY! — when the water is hot/boiling and it won’t stop until the stove is turned off and the kettle removed from the burner [therefore ensuring that that doesn’t happen]. Has none of your mother’s tea kettles ever had this feature?

If John doesn’t like Elly’s cooking, he has two options: get her cooking lessons or step up and do better. Undercutting her to his son isn’t helpful. It’s passive aggressive.

Well, John … if I’d heard that one, you’d have been doing the cooking for the next year. At least … see how funny you find those remarks …
