Republicans are TRYING to let the gov’t running. It’s Obama and Reid that’s refusing to negotiate unless he gets his way. Whatever happened to, “The Buck Stop Here”, Obama??? This mess is YOUR doing. Take some ownership.

Love how Republicans forget all those chances to talk earlier in the year and even when Johnny B. had a deal with Reid, but decided to blow it off. Yep, some serious dementia happening here, just like with St. Ronnie.

Republicans always whining about responsibility and like the true abusers they are, never taking any. Play that song Sam !!

You know….all those who blame X, where x=Republicans or Democrats..take your pick… are missing the point. Both parties, all of congress, and the President are responsible for this failure. Right or wrong, all issues aside…if they were really working FOR the people (as they are paid to do) then this could not have happened.

Politics for the sake of power or one-upmanship….whatever..that is the problem. Somehow we have to get the message across that politicians are civil SERVANTS and their job is to work for the greater good of the nation and not their own personal goals.

Sorry if that is not very eloquent (its not) but I am just so sick of the political squabbles (from both sides) and the people paying the price.

I’ve been hearing some great clips lately of Reagan swearing that he will NEVER negotiate over the debt ceiling. Which is sensible position, because the senate Democrats and Obama have just as much “No!” power as the House Republicans do, they’re just not as willing to destroy America. Obama is being just like Reagan, and it’s pissing off conservatives who thought they had found a way to govern other than winning elections, since they are unlikely to be able to do that for a long, long time.

Reagan not only negotiated with terrorists he funded them. To call the GOP terrorists does a disservice to the real terrorists. Is Obama a terrorist? Of course not, he commands the largest military in the history of the world, when he destroys countries or kills thousands he is merely carrying out God’s will.

There have been so many great comments I feel no need to comment on the cartoon. However, if anyone is flagging Howgozit or anyone else simply because of their name or their political slant, that person is using the same tactics of the worst of the political extremists dividing and weakening our nation. Flaggable offenses, in my opinion, include vulgarity and the use of words like nazis or terrorists to stereotype an entire group. There are individuals and small groupsthat might be acting as terrorists, Westboro Baptist Church comes to mind, but I know people who consider themself tea party republicans and they are not nazis, especially the Jewish ones. People who are trying to protect old growth forest by spiking trees are an example of liberal terrorists. There are some meanspirited commentators in this forum, and some very raw tempers, but flagging for flaggings sake is dishonorable and if folks start doing that, even the most moderate and temperate commentators could find themselves ToS’d by GC. People like Michael5 and WME, Bruce, Robert, and many more. There are several people in this forum with whom I have such distaste, I feel like flagging them just because I see their name. But that which you do to another, you give another the right to do to you.Howgozit and I disagree on many things. But as long as he does not use vulgarities, even those like the words nazi and terrorist, I will endure any sarcasm he might use, even when he does so with me. And will defend to the death his right to do so.Flagging is a defensive weapon, and should not be used offensively… not even against those one might consider offensive.Respectfully,C.

Implicating that these two very different themes of negotiation are the same really makes one question the intelligence of Mr. Anderson.

You are truly funny! The only truly offensive liberal I have seen on these comment boards (and I do keep an eye out for such nastiness) has been omnius, and even he is far lees offensive than some of the so called conservatives (b\not even true conservatives, actually more like ultra conservative tea party types) on here. There are indeed some relatively mild and reasonable conservatives here, and even though I do not always agree with them, (and sometimes I do agree with them) I respect them and their opinions, but there are a whole lot of ultra conservative types that have got to be the most offensive people on this planet. Sometimes, when I go to one of the more conservative Editorial cartoonists (like Lisa Benson), these ultra conservatives line up one after another and fight over just who can be the most offensive, and I have never seen any liberals (no not even omnius) do that!!!!!

Ansonia, in the 18 or so months I’ve been active in GC, I’ve seen relatively equal numbers of cons and libs silenced by GC. I’ve heard reasons ranging from use of copywritten material to language to comments aimed at GC itself. I have flagged liberals and conservatives who use vulgarities and have recently been warning those who call groups nazis and terrorists they had better be very specific at who they are labeling.Because you are generally conservative, you, onguard, stevenson, etc. blame the liberals. And Kato, Omnius, Clark Kent, etc, blame conservatives. And both sides of the divisions in which you and they thrive are proving that George Washington was right when he said political parties would divide and weaken the nation.Thomas Jefferson said we need to let all people have a voice, even those who would tear down our Constitution, if for no other reason but to know what they are saying. The insults and accusations do nothing to make people think or offer ideas. It simply hardens hearts and closes minds and “proves” that “I’M RIGHT about THOSE PEOPLE”.I’ve been wrong many times. Talk to me and show me some objective facts, and I’ll apologize and act on the new information. Personally, the comments that should get people banned have nothing to do with liberalism or conservatism. It has to do with basic human decency and civility. Everyone has opinions. It is when they are expressed with hate and vulgarities that they deserve to be punished on the ToS.Respectfully,C.

So if 53% of Americans disagree with ACA and refuses to not only buy health insurance but also refuses to pay the fine, I mean tax, what happens then? Is the Government going to arrest 53% of the population? I mean if Obama and the Democrats was put in office by the people and are doing the peoples bidding, then wouldn’t our bidding be to remove the ACA since the majority disagrees with the ACA and refuse to participate?
