Click-to-enlarge image can be found here, or at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry. This is a detail image. The full Saint Jerome Writing (link shows painting’s Wikipedia page), painted around 1607, is shown, with a different coloration image, and described, by its current-location page. Earlier, the artist had painted a different version (also described here).A different coloration, click-to-enlarge image, of the full painting, can be found here, along with a description, and a different accompanying, click-to-enlarge detail image. Another different coloration image can be found here.As described here, the painting was restored in 1990. The last 6 minutes of this Italian video involve the restoration (I found it interesting, even though I didn’t understand a word of it). The artist’s Wikipedia page and collection (many more under Subcategories at each level).Third, of the 4 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.
The cropping seems odd. The old masters usually painted entire figures, though some portraits only show the upper torso. Somehow, looking at this painting, I’d expect to see the entire figure, with carefully rendered feet showing below the draped fabric.

“Amor vincit omnia” by the same painter would have ‘drawn’ many more guffaws. (Banned in Boston).
