Why would you spend time and effort to barricade the monuments? Is it to make sure that the people are hurt? Only Dems have the power to make this call. And what a stupid call it was.
Another point to be made: When Virginia’s previous governor left the treasury in a shambles due to an unfunded shift in taxes from local to state, refusing to compromise when it was proven to cost way more than he said it would, the new governor, Mark Warner (at the time), told the citizens that we would have to cut back in order to get our finances in line. He cut things that people could deal with in their daily lives, most notably the state-run liquor stores, and shut down a lot of DMV offices. Suddenly the dire circumstances became apparent, and the people demanded better. Perhaps Mr. Obama is taking a page from now-Senator Warner’s playbook.
Boehner’s boneheads caused the “problem”, period. I do feel the “open air” monuments should have been left open, but isn’t it interesting that Republicans have failed for over two decades to adequately funded the NPS, now they’re blaming them?
“The Wall” after all is testimony to why stupidity, and false wars, need to be avoided. Over 150 of my friends are named there. (Like Obama is working on with Syria, and Iran!) The WW II vets have my admiration, my uncle and father-in-law were both at the battle of the Bulge and received Purple Hearts for that action.
When it comes to TEA party actions, and current “Republican” recalcitrance, “NO” is the only answer. It’s the one they deserve come the next time they’re on ballots. (And censure is called for with many of them, right now!)
They didn’t get “No” for an answer. The Park Service disobeyed Republican orders and quietly let the vets in, while following the law with respect to other tourists.

They knew how to get stuff done. Obama on the other hand can’t do anything and gets nothing useful done whatsoever.
