Joshua, it actually is Gojira. When the movies came here, it became Americanized and became Godzilla. If you watch the American made version, the reporter in the bar hears the reporter on TV (the one that wouldn’t give her a chance) say “Godzilla” as the interview with the Japanese fisherman was aired., but she heard the Japanese fisherman correctly and said “it’s Gojira ……….”
Makes me think of the Vegetales song about monsters. “God is bigger than the boggy man. He’s bigger than Godzilla or the monsters on TV. God is bigger than the boggy man and He’s watching out for you and me.”
