The Fat Lady is what made this strip funny. Sure a prophet and Death were there, but the Fat Lady made it funny.
That IS just the point; the Wagnerian soprano with enough OOMP for the singing style is generally a very portly lady (and that does not change). Kate Smith is an icon to many older Americans, but many would not know who she is.
