That didn’t start with Obama, though he has done nothing about it, despite being a “socialist”.

Most dramatic shifts have been during GOP administrations, starting with Reagan, but since Clinton and the “New Democrats” (AKA Republicans) came to power, they’re becoming controlled by corporate interests as well.

“…and all because Obama made the housing market crash before he was elected. Thanks, Obama.”.No, because the only thing he has done since he was elected is the boondoggle of Obamacare, which is giving companies excuses to cut full time staff and smaller companies to eliminate health care. THAT is what you should thank Obama for and his war on the middle class..BRILLIANT CARTOON TED!! Brilliant enough for all caps!

How? You need capital to open a company or factory. But banks won’t loan to the 99% anymore. Hell, they won’t even refi your mortgage.

No doubt, these trends long predated Obama. And I criticized his predecessors. But he’s the president now. He needs to stop golfing and TRY to fix this.

@Ted Rall: HOW is Obama supposed to “fix this”? He couldn’t do it without GOP support in the legislature, and they wouldn’t help him put out a fire, even if they were the ones burning!

Ted: while I agree in “concept”, “hoffman” does make the very valid point that “Obama haters” hate, CONGRESS, not the President, writes the laws. Whereas going back to Reagan, the Executive branch HAS and CAN write regulations that force agencies to actually do the exact OPPOSITE of what the laws may mandate, it is now members of the House majority, IN COMMITTEES, that insert clauses into “MUST PASS” legislation, to actually take much of that Executive responsibility away. It also happens inn the Senate, as when Coburn inserted a clause into the “must pass” budget bill to force the National Park Service to allow loaded weapons to be carried in our parks, changing REGULATIONS. (Just might note that lethal shootings and gun deaths in the parks have risen dramatically since DOCTOR COBURN inserted this “life saving” clause!)

Income inequality likewise has been increased “under the table” as the wealthiest corporations and individuals have beaten Congress into giving them additional income they so sorely “need”.

My question stands: What, exactly, is the president supposed to DO to fix this, even if he had the cooperation to do so?

“All I know is I was forced into early retirement,(something I did not want) because of lack of work(carpenter) and before obummer I never missed a day of work, went on unemployment for over a year and finally just had enough and retired at 56 years old,(2 years ago) smaller pension bennys,, it stinks. I wanted to work till I was at least 62”-You should have consulted MStevenson58. He stated what you should do, two posts above yours:-“MStevenson58 said, about 6 hours ago

This means that any of the 99% can open their own company or factory, exploit workers and become rich. That’s the great thing about America – anyone can make it here."-See how easy that would have been?

@Ted, thanks. I just wanted to know if you had any ideas about this. Doubtful he’d do it, given the grilling he’d get over it, though I can always dream….

It’s clear from the graph on top that from 1947 and 1979 poor people were getting too much money. We’ve managed to turn that around at last.
