Frankenstein author Mary Shelley kept the heart of her late husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley, wrapped in a piece of his poetry for 29 years. Green parakeets nest in the crater of the active Masaya volcano in Nicaragua, apparently immune to the toxic sulfurous fumes! The carnivorous Arthrobotrys Fungus feeds on nematode worms that it traps and a tightening noose in just 1/10th of a second!

Back then it wasn’t really considered morbid. That’s where somebody’s heart and soul was, and they just wanted to be close to it. Bodies in general, weren’t considered morbid like they are today. One of the German generals, I forget his name (had a breakdown in WWI) kept his dead son with him. Wouldn’t send him home to be buried, even apologized to his wife for doing so.

The parrots have probably adapted to an environment nothing else wants to venture into – thus no predators.
