Even though he could read large-print on it, dad says he won't buy a Kindle. Why not? Money. He says he only buys books second-hand, and Kindle doesn't even offer used books.
They do offer a number of free book now and again. I downloaded around 25 last time I logged into my account. I admit some free ones are not worth the electronic ink to view it.
There are thousands of free books available to download. Classics and junk and everything in between. Not that I’m promoting the Kindle (I’m an iPad guy) but I have hundreds of books on mine which were free, including the complete collections of Twain, Dickens, Hugo and more.

Classics may be free but that is primarily because the profit margin is gone. You can get the latest book in your series of interest at a lawn sale, used, and never ever find it discounted for an e-reader.
There is just something about sitting in a chair outside, cool drink beside you, turning one page at a time that an e-reader can never compete with.
My kids loved the Violet Fairy Tale book, the Orange Fairy Tale book, the Blue, a whole series of colors—copies from my childhood, with the kids checking out the rest of the series from the libary over and over. Then eventually they bought Kindles for their college and grad-school textbooks, and one of them discovered that all those fairy tale books were available—for free, for ten whopping cents, twenty cents, and she downloaded the whole lot of them gleefully. Not quite the same as a well-loved book held in a child’s hands with the smell and feel of paper, but hey! Her childhood reKindled!

I’ve downloaded around 300 Star Trek books and transfer them to my cellphone to read. I should probably buy a cheap tablet for reading, but I’m cheap.
