To the elephants in the above cartoon — here is 150 years of data condensed into a few seconds. Being informed is a good thing because reality is not a matter of opinion…

The sea levels are rising at an alarming rate. That’s not politics, it’s just the news, people. Ignorance is no longer a defense against truth.

Love the comments that indicate “tolerance” for opposing viewpoints. Name calling etc. No wonder we can’t get anything done anymore

Almost no one denies climate change exists. The main question at this point is: is man responsible for at least some of it?

Scientists on both sides make claims that do not agree. So, what to do?

If we do nothing, and we’re wrong, we’re in bigger trouble faster. Maybe not us, but future generations.

If we find a way to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, attempt to clean our air and water, and find out it makes no difference to climate change, there will still be benefits. Asthma and respiratory ailments, now rapidly becoming more common, will decrease. Clean water will still be available in quantities that keep us from going to war over access. Clean water and air means a more reliable food chain. AND, we can get out from under the thumbs of the robber barons who control oil supply and price, shifting geopolitical power from the middle east. Which choice seems more practical to you, Mr./Ms. Reader?

“then they’ll try to blame it on the Democrats who have been trying to keep our planet clean.”

Omnius, the Dems are pretending to clean up the environment, but look around … do you see any actual cleanup, any effort to regulate, any sign of it happening at all?

Just like the GOP says one thing and does the other, so the Dems talk big about ‘environmental protection’ and ‘green jobs’, but the bottom line is, as the GOP is handing Health Care over to the insurers, the Dems are handing the environment over to the developers.

No part of this government has lifted a finger for the environment in many long decades. In fact, Rachel Carson’s book ‘Silent Spring’ was published in the sixties; if you haven’t read it, it is as contemporary now as it was then, though some of the offending toxins have changed. There was a brief public flurry of concern for a few years, there was even an effort to regulate disposal of toxic waste and to clean up some of the existing toxic dumps.

And then Mr. Reagan stepped up to the plate for industry and fixed it all for them. And since then, deregulation has been coupled with a lot of hifalutin’ talk about ‘environmental protection’ and ‘green development’, but … the environment, like us, has been handed over to corporate industry, in the name of ‘protection’.

You can lie to the public.

You can lie to the government.

You can’t lie to Mother Nature.

My only problem with “deniers” is that when the flood waters reach their lower lip, and they realize how wrong they have been in their ignorance, rather than apologize they’ll be the first to climb on our shoulders to try and keep themselves above the disaster. If you wish to be a denier, you should be required to sign a pledge that, when the s##t does hit the fan, you’ll accept that you were wrong and accept your fate, and the fate that your inaction helped condemn all of us to, and not act like rats on a sinking ship, climbing over others to save your own denying hides.

On the issue of “erosion”, being human caused; look at the Bingham mine south of Salt Lake City, diamond mines in South Africa, or many open pits in Arizona, then look at mountain top removal in the Appalachians and destruction of vast miles of rivers and destruction of towns as well. “Terraforming” is going on in a lot of places, and having serious negative consequences.

Think of seven billion saber tooth cats roaming the planet, and humans having only rocks to defend themselves, and you have a picture of what the planet, and our wildlife species, as well as plant species are facing with our onslaught.
