It’s been working pretty well in Massachusetts since Romney instituted it. But just wait: if the Republicans get in, they will relabel a couple parts, rearrange a couple other pieces, paint it all a different color, and with loud trumpets boast how they saved the country from Obamacare. For surely there aren’t enough loonies in the GOP to actually snatch the health insurance away from millions of Americans and price millions more out of the health insurance market, thus literally bringing on the deaths of thousands of Americans, which would be the result of repealing Obamacare now without replacing it with something similar. Not that replacing Obamacare would not be a good idea. It would! If it were replaced by something BETTER. Now if the GOP had something to offer that was better … but of course, if they had anything to offer other than petulant whining and bogus outrage, they would not behave as they do.
@RadishIf Obamacare is working SO well, then shy do so many corporations and unions seek (and get) waivers from it? If it’s SUCH a Godsend, then why did Obama delay the corporate mandate to not be kicked in until, say, AFTER the 2014 mid-term elections?.Obamacare is a train wreck!
How can it be fixed when it hasn’t been fully implemented? The mandate is great because we’re paying for the uninsured now through our own premiums. Nothing is free in America, not even the trip to the emergency room if you don’t have insurance.
Obamacare is working very well, and is going to save a lot of people a lot of money, and give people real freedom to leave their jobs and try something else. The conservative “tea party” con-men are actually out there trying to convince people NOT TO ENROLL IN HEALTH INSURANCE! It’s crazy, cruel, and stupid. Every last one of these fake-grassroots organizations gives out health insurance for life to their over-paid execs, and they’re telling the poor to just take a risk that they would never take themselves, for a principle that they can’t even articulate. Freedom. Shariah law. Or death panels. Or whatever it takes to attack Obama for doing the right thing.
it worked in Mass: bankrupted the state. i’d expect the same out of any Dem run biz (ala Detroit & Mich). let’s put it to work for the USA: we need to join the EU nations in teetering on the edge of mass unemployment and bankrupt banking.Ask any democrat: it’s good for you.
No good idea gets in immediately. We couldn’t get the Constitution until the country was collapsing under the Articles of Confederation. Even the great Tommy Douglas had to get one province at a time. Change province to state and Canada to United states and there is a system that could really work.
“He didn’t, and we will soon find out our premiums will increase not decrease as this has already happened with our Senior Citizens who are seeing their medicare premiums increasing not decreasing.”
Quite right. Only – that’s not quite the way I remember it.
What I remember is that Obama fought them for eighteen months, by which time the entire Congress was screaming that he’d agreed to implement an affordable health plan in the first year.
So he signed the thing. We all knew what it was, We knew it was more of the same: yet another gift to industry.
Which parts would you repeal, and what would replace it with?"-Of course you know that the Republicans/Fox “news” viewers have no answer to your question. They know nothing of the bill except the mandate. They know only that it is labeled Obamacare and that their hatred of Obama means that it is horrid. They, in fact, do not want improved health care for lower income people. -It seems pretty obvious that getting early diagnosis of several conditions, which is cheap, will head off serious problems later, which is usually very, very expensive. Republicans/Fox “news” viewers flat don’t want this to happen for lower income people, no matter how much greater the cost in the long run.

As it is under ACA, profits are limited to 20% of premiums. How can insurance companies stay in business??**

And it sure looks like burying the SSs.
Medicare amounts to extortion, as it stands.
