The 19 “new plays” in the First Folio weren’t new, they just hadn’t been published in book form before.
We don’t know that Shakespeare’s parents were illiterate, but we /do/ know that his father was the mayor. And it wouldn’t prove anything if they illiterate, anyway, since plenty of people throughout history have been the first literate members of their families.
The claim that his children were illiterate is a flat-out lie.

Bacon was a genius. So was Einstein. That doesn’t mean that Einstein wrote “A Streetcar Named Desire”. And, in fact, the plays of Shakespeare do not indicate a highly educated author; they show someone who had the rough Elizabethan equivalent of a high-school education.
The same “cyphers” that supposed say that Bacon wrote the plays also “say” that Bacon wrote “The Song of Hiawatha”.
I know that this is all a joke, but I have seen minds destroyed by this Shakespeare-denial crap. Indeed, the woman who started it all, Delia Bacon (no relation) died in an asylum, and I’ve seen modern people who started out as crusaders against the establishment, but who ended in incoherent rants against Freemasons, the Theory of Relativity, and subjunctive verbs.

Both Cho’s comic and Ice Cold Troll’s comment were funny..You guys are boring!.In case you missed it, proponents of both the Bacon/Shakespeare conspiracy and the Moon/Fake landing conspiracy are being lambasted as ludicrous..This debate only proves the point. Stratford-on-Avon actually had a free grammar school (in fact, it’s still running to this day). But the phrase “grammar school” confuses Americans; in American English, the closest equivalent to British “grammar school” is “prep school”. (Truth to tell, “Latin school” is even closer, but there are only a handful of Latin schools left in the US; most Americans have never even heard of one.)
John Kennedy, This is a comic strip, but since you went off about the Shakespeare Authorship Question leading to insanity that you’ve witnessed, let me assure you that Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, Sigmund Freud and Sir Derek Jacobi, Justice Stevens, Paul Nitze and Former Globe Theatre Director Mark Rylance were or are sane. First of all, John Shaksper was first notated in the record books for having a muck heap in his front yard. He wasn’t mayor, he was a bailiff, when people gladly paid fines not to be saddled with the hassle of being one. To say “so what” if Will’s parents were illiterate is noteworthy. If we dismissed everyone who ended up suffering from dementia, we’d be in sad shape, so you bagging on Dalia Bacon is rude and irrelevant. Will Shaksper had 2 daughters, 1 signed her name with a mark, the other was semi-literate. She was married to Dr. John Hall, who inherited New Place. He had a 2 vol. journal, 1 of which exists, and he NEVER mentioned that his father in law was a great dramatist and poet, but gushed over meeting poet Michael Drayton. There is not even a rumor he wrote or received a letter, which if you don’t that to be odd, I certainly do. Imagine what a single letter from the bard would be worth! Will had a 3 page will that had zero punctuations marks, except if you count the blot at the end they claim is the period to end the 3 page sentence. He died without a book and without a bookcase. And if you think the Shakespeare Canon denotes a high school education, I’ll rest my case on that ridiculous statement.
