As if Peppermint Patty hasn’t seen a dog before.

He may look funny, but he’s a very dogged player.

That’s why he is the world’s most famous beagle.

Ah! So THAT’S why Peppermint is always thinking Snoopy is just a kid.

Not only can the funny looking kid play shortstop, he also flies a Sopwith Doghouse. “Sopwith Doghouse” – sounds like a neat name for a rock band.

I understand that Snoopy could win the golden glove award (Why does he wear a glove at all? Doesn’t he catch the ball with his teeth?), but how is he at the plate?

Schroeder asked Charlie Brown after a play why Snoopy even wears a glove since he catches the ball in his mouth. Charlie Brown didn’t know. Cut to Snoopy, thinking, “I carry my lunch in it.”

That’s right. Patty was one of the original characters who appeared in the first Peanuts strip in 1950. Peppermint Patty first appeared in 1966. Since it was confusing to have two characters named Patty in the same strip, and the earlier one never had much of a personality, Schulz pashed her out.Take a look at this page for the background of every Peanuts character that ever was.

I meant to say, Schulz “phased” her out.

Charles Schulz comments on the origins of Peppermint Patty (from the 2000 book “Charles M. Schulz: Conversations,” page 151):“Years ago, I developed the character Peppermint Patty because I happened to be walking through our living room. I saw a dish of Peppermint Patties and I thought that would be a good name for a character, so I drew the face to match the name.”

Franklin joined the cast in 1968, two years after Peppermint Patty. I don’t know if you saw the comment I added to yesterday’s strip, but it has a link to an article all about Franklin’s creation.

Classic Peppermint Patty. That’s her endearing quality.
