Animals certainly can sense weakness.-Our American problem is, why can’t our Media and the Obama-ites sense weakness, malicious intent in dismantling the most hopeful system of government on earth, and deliberate sabotage of our economy????

Obama has been told he is no good since he started his campaign for president. Some called for his impeachment before he was even sworn in. Every decision he’s made has been ridiculed by his opponents. He’s been called a liar and not an American. Okay, that the business of politics – nothing personal. But all of a sudden there’s this astonishment that (gasp) other countries are taking the cue and also disrespecting him. .Hey, we’re all in this boat together. If you drill holes in the bottom, you’re going down, too. Even if you don’t like the man, respect the office. Put aside political issues once in a while, and not only under extreme pressure. Two cars trying to get across a one-lane bridge – one of them has to back up or the big barge coming through will wipe out both of them. The effects of all this political bickering will last for decades.

“Everyone was afraid of the raving psychopath Bush.”Not Putin:From http://blog.foreignpolicy.com/posts/2010/11/04/putin_told_bush_my_dog_is_biggerBush says he had introduced then-Russian President Putin to his Scottish terrier, Barney, on a visit to the U.S. presidential retreat, Camp David.Putin returned the favor when Bush visited Russia and Putin was giving him a tour of the grounds of his dacha.“A big black Labrador came charging across the lawn. With a twinkle in his eye, Vladimir said, ‘Bigger, stronger, faster than Barney,’” Bush writes. A copy of the book was obtained by Reuters.Bush says he later told the story to the Canadian prime minister, Stephen Harper, who replied: “You’re lucky he only showed you his dog.”

Aristotle says that humans are political animals — by which he means that we live in polities, social groups. Politics is the art and science of living in social groups.

There was a time when the eight-hour day was a “political” issue, votes for women, child-labour laws — all these were “political”. Now we pretty much all agree about these, so they are no longer “political” in the narrow sense. Someday universal health insurance will no longer be a “political” issue in the US.

What a nice reply. I have been writing things down for several years, and actually some of these “tedious and pedantic” posts (as somebody called them today at the “Cornered” site) are efforts to get these memories down. The old folks my parents’ age had it very hard at the beginning of their lives, easier later; I think people my age will go through the hard parts at the end..@ Jack75287Thanks also for your kind comment. I see your point, and used to feel that way, too. However, as far as universal health care goes, I feel it should be a steady priority. It might even eventually be a big boost to the economy and save it in the end..Here’s my reasoning as to that. There are seven billion people in the world, close together and traveling all over. Big cities are increasing and they are ideal places for bacteria and plagues. Unhealthy people and those who don’t visit doctors will make these things easier to develop and take hold. I read “The Coming Plague” years ago, and it’s not a sensationalist account — it’s a description of the aggressive and terrible affects of some diseases, and the brave people who combat and study them..None of the wealth-generating plans under discussion will mean anything if those plagues get loose. Present wealth will be expended in a flash, and eveything will be in chaos. As they say, if you don’t have your health, nothing else means much. The same goes with societies.

In my (leftish) opinion, there’s reason to criticize Obama. Ramirez, however, is not really engaged in critique. He just wants Obama to fail, and so everything Obama does, no matter what, Ramirez interprets as a failure, and moreover a lot that Obama has little or nothing to do with Ramirez counts as Obama’s fault. Well, I suppose that’s the way it works. I wasn’t so fond of Mr. Bush, after all, and perhaps it’s unfair to blame him just because he was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. I mean, everybody makes mistakes.

Do we know each other? You’re making a lot of assumptions, there. And what did Benny Hill say about that?. Which lake? I wish I could, it’s hot here today..I write only comments that under ideal circumstances I wouldn’t be afraid to sign with my real name. Any inaccuracies are due to my laziness or inability to verify facts, or because of clumsy syntax.

Your right, lets copy the congo where to win the election you find a young man, cut out his heart and eat it to prove your strength ( this is actually something the current president boasted during the campaign)

strongarming foreign policy is the habit of empires in decline, the net effect being that your enemies hate you more and your allies jump ship for risk of confrontation

“W” could “see Putin’s soul”, because it is almost as corrupt as his own. From gleefully executing prisoners in Texas (apparently the only part of the job he like) to killing tens of thousands in Afghanistan and Iraq based on lies, and killing over 6,000 of our own as well, the heart of a deserting coward and murderer was revealed for over a decade in “public office”.

Yes, THAT is why I blame, and despise, “W”. His dad was a coward in WW II, but at least has tried to make up for it since, in some ways. “W” has no such redeeming qualities, period.

“-Our American problem is, why can’t our Media and the Obama-ites sense weakness, malicious intent in dismantling the most hopeful system of government on earth, and deliberate sabotage of our economy????“why do you right wingers keep bringing up bush – he’s been out of office for 5 years!Bush did indeed sabotage the economy, imploding financial institutions, job losses greater than 700,000 PER MONTH, DJIA under 6000, housing meltdown. Obama’s sequester and improved economy has the employment numbers positive month over month over month, and the deficit shrinking. those are facts.after a great recession/depression (caused by two unfunded, immoral wars) you could expect it to take 10 years to get back on track, yet Obama had it stabilized before his second term started.so let’s look at Obama’s great accomplishments and not keep going back to the worst president the USA ever had (by far – carter was brilliant in comparison to bush).

So? What’s the implication? That he was a quiet kid, and not much remembered? Or that he wasn’t there? Please explain why this matters.

^he should even explain how he comes to present it as a fact. has he interviewed each and every student in the class? I doubt if any of my fellow students (except for one I’ve kept in touch with who was my best friend) from university remember me. Columbia UNIVERSITY is a huge place and students tend to be quite independent. they don’t take attendance, no assigned seats – it’s not elementary school. you can sit in a lecture hall with hundreds of other students and never meet anyone.
