    How about shaming and disowning these girls that like to get knocked up by random strangers. Also, start locking up more of Te deadbeat dads too.It seemed to work a lot better than the coddling of today.

    And that is today’s lesson in compassionate conservatism, with a special thanks to Conserve.

    Not sure what the deal is with Florida, but I know a couple of guys that headed there after their second and third divorces. Evidently it’s a haven for guys trying to squirm out of their obligations.

    When it becomes possible for a baby to exist on its own, even with high level medical assistance, then it should be considered as a complete person, until then it is a potential person. This is occurring at an earlier start age now with better and better care of premature babies. It now would seem that this is now occurring at some 24 weeks or six months. And therefore it should indeed be illegal to abort (with the possible direct danger to the life of the mother to be, as the only reason for abortion after this time). This would mean that all abortions should be illegal after the second trimester pf pregnancy. It is incredibly stupid to have a hospital working very hard to make sure that pre mature babies as early as six months survive to be viable adults, while at the same time abortion clinics are killing such viable pre mature babies, usually just down the street from said hospitals!!!

    Yet another example of how the right has taken hypocrisy to a whole other level.

    “The woman or girl citizen has control over her body and that includes the fetus.”

    Thank you. It’s so nice to read posts from those of you who understand that women are not broodmares, nor any other sort of chattel.

    Why aren’t you running for office? We need you!

    I can’t figure out why you’d think that politicians and bureaucrats are in any position to determine whether a person’s pain is legitimate or not. That is totally inappropriate, by any sane standard of evaluation.

    People are routinely denied pain medications for conditions known to the medical community to be excruciatingly painful. To write these people off as ‘drug seeking hippies’ is despicable.

    The reality is that the drugs ‘approved’ by the government for pain are frequently ineffective, except in terms of lining the pockets of pharmaceutical executives and shareholders.

    A foetus born by a destitute woman who knows she has NOT got the resources to raise it will likely suffer less pain through abortion than through the life you are willing to force upon that child.

    I don’t see any morality at all in that.

    “That doesn’t mean that you get to tell her what she has to do with the baby growing inside her. That is the bottom line.”

    Yes, it is. Thank you for saying it.

    I recommend viewing “Through the Wormhole” when they rerun “When Does Life Begin” on the Science Channel.Morgan Freeman presents all sides, including some you haven’t thought of.

    @Himari Noihara

    “Anything to keep the girl’s parents from actually having to talk to their kid, huh?”

    [in reference to ConserveGov’s comment, and jointly to him]

    More like anything to keep men from having to take any responsibility for their fertility status.

    Until women have unrestricted access to whatever birth control they need, regardless of their financial position, they shouldn’t be left holding the parenting bag. Nor should they be ‘punished and humiliated’ for their partner’s irresponsibility.

    The bottom line is that living children must be seen to be a social responsibility, beyond the immediate financial status of the mother. Orphaned children – whether literal or political; warehoused children are effective orphans – tend to grow up with emotional issues. If we aren’t willing as a society to raise and educate all children, even those born to the poor, then we get what we deserve, and it’s not pretty.

    Just look around you.

    @skipcarlsen

    “It is ‘scientific consensus’ that says a fetus/baby CAN feel pain at 20 weeks! You liberals need to climb out of the stone ages and smell the roses!”

    So we are prepared to criminalize the pain a foetus probably feels, but will deny appropriate pain medication to a living, breathing, potentially (or historically) productive adult.

    Do you see nothing wrong with this picture at all?

    In Florida, one’s house (‘homestead’) is absolutely invulnerable to judgements. Many of the very wealthy have essentially all of their assets tied up in a ‘house’ in Florida.

    from a high risk obgyn I know. both sides should read it, but i’m sure it won’t sway any opinions on one side.Very few people actually talk about these issues amongst the sturm und drang of the abortion fight.http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/21/opinion/my-abortion-at-23-weeks.html?hp&_r=0
