It would seem more likely that he got sunburned than tanned that way, and as said that mark would not happen.

Possible if he was sloppy in application of SPF 100. Umbrella irrelevant.
Anything over SPF 50 is basically wasted. Reapplying every half hour is better.
I guess he shouldn’t have done that.
And then those nobodies developed skin cancer and flew into a tizzy about it.
