The cartoon is painful. It reminds us of the military leaders failing to protect those who serve under them, as well as reminding us of a culture, one of many, that has such little value for women. The common denominator here are men in positions of power/authority who misuse that power.I also feel a sense of anger for a woman who comes across this cartoon having suffered sexual abuse that went unpunished. It is a vulgar reminder of her pain.As I type this, I am recalling many who have commented on this issue who have chosen to blame the women for choosing a career that puts them under the control of abusers, as if the abusers themselves are somehow the victims of the women they attack. How cruel, how misguided.The whole issue is vulgar and if “Men of Honor” in the chain of command are unwilling to do their duty, then these reports need to be handled by an entirely different body, perhaps even in civil court.Respectfully,C.
Apparently, it’s not just women who have been raped — there are a LOT of men too. And that is not the only shared value that we have with the Taliban — there are many efforts currently underway to take away women’s rights in the US.
