When my best friend was alive, we were often the ONLY white people at some of the blues venues we went to. On one occasion, we were braced by a couple of young men, but were nearly instantly backed up by others in the crowd and the bass player.Compliments to Masterkrain, & Dale Netherton for their comments.@ PianoGuy24 – in Mississippi, from 1964 to 1972, there were stores where my black friends would not enter. Even after laws passed banning discrimination, blacks knew there were consequences in that small Mississippi town for thinking they could go where they pleased. It wasn’t liberals keeping them out of those stores. I would be the one to take the money in and buy what my friends wanted, and was told more than once that I shouldn’t be encouraging those young black people by the white storekeepers – they had other euphemisms for race.If the left the only ones who see the difference in race, perhaps the conservatives are failing to see how race/class is still a barrier to success for too many of our fellow Americans. I disagree though. I know many black and latino conservatives and I assure you, they are well aware of race and the look and tone of racism.Respectfully,C.
Everybody will be in a minority group soon. So the majority will be a minority and the minorities the majority. You would think that race would less important in the future, but I worry that there will be more racists than ever because each race will think the other races are out to get them.
@Respectful TrollIn the same time period you speak of it was the Right side of the aisle that got the civil rights passed, opposed by Al Gore Sr and the like. And since I was not there, I feel like I have to pay for the past sins according to some. I can only speak for myself and what I believe. It’s NOT about race, it’s about how wrongly ANY body in EVERY race needs to stop classifying someone different than themselves in blanket statements that are derogatory.
Just one more thing for the radical right to be afraid of. What IS “Latino”/“Hispanic” anyway as that population is tremendously “mixed” DNA-wise. Of course, the fact that all modern humans trace back to a black woman in eastern Africa, all bigotry, from all sides, is a tad insane.
Also, considering that 49% “minorities” in the younger generation coming up is made up of several different groups, all those “Caucasians” can relax a little if they look at numbers instead of fabricated percentages and statistics.
“Is race really an issue anymore in 2013?”rhetorical question eh? just look at the Zimmerman case to see if race matters. the FACTS are simple:apparent armed white man follows an unarmed black teen (against police instructions), an altercation occurs and the black teen is shot to death.I don’t think either side can argue with those facts – you can add to them, or add your opinions, but that’s what we all know.now look at the character assasinations by the right wing posters here saying he’s a black thug and deserved it.why does the ‘belief’ before trial get drawn up on racial lines if race isn’t an issue anymore?
Respectful Troll (first comment): Great comment, as we usually expect from you. However, the antonym to euphemism is either kataphemism (Greek) or maledictory (Latin). English seems to have few words of its own, being mostly Greco-Roman or Germanic, with a bit of Celtic surviving, plus any other language that has a word we don’t.(second comment): The quote is “unto the third or fourth generation”, not third plus fourth. It continues with “to thousands of those” who obey God..dtroutma: Cortez, in his command to settle down and intermarry, used the term “raza nueva” a new race or new people. There is something most farmers at least used to know about called hybrid vigor. My congregation is majority second and third generation from Mexico. Big deal!
Immigrants back in Reagan’s day were generally welcomed with open arms. He granted immunity for all who were already here. Best and only good thing Reagan did.Obama has deported more undocumented workers than anyone else, but the conservatives are saying that is what Obama is doing too (welcoming) That sweet little American boy in a mariachi group, who sang the national anthem was called an illegal alien and other vile names! So very petty! That little boy has the right to sing the national anthem as as any other American! People like that are laughed at for their xenophobia and pettiness!

It’s also the white guys in power that don’t want to fund birth control or even let anyone talk about it.
