From National Geographic site:The previous longstanding record was believed to be a hailstone which fell at Potter, Nebraska on July 6, 1928. It measured around 7 inches (17.8 centimeters) in diameter and weighed about 1.5 pounds (680 grams).

    In a more recent storm.National Geographic NewsAugust 4, 2003

It’s official. The thunderstorm that pounded south-central Nebraska in June ended up leaving something for the record books: The largest hailstone ever recovered in the United States, a seven-inch (17.8-centimeter) wide chunk of ice almost as large as a soccer ball.

My father lived through one of the biggest size hail storms ever recorded. It was in Nebraska. The hail was the size of grapefruit. It killed cattle, destroyed crops and automobiles. He was living with his grandparents. The noise as it hit the house was deafening. He said they thought it was the end of the world, and knelt down and prayed till the weather passed

I agree that this would make the game more interesting. I’m of the ‘seen one, seen them all’ theory

It’d be that much easier to get the batter out, though…
