Such a paradox that Laura Bush devoted her life to teaching, and her position to promote literacy, while being married to someone whose literary depth was limited to “Hop on Pop”.

There are more tumbleweeds & sagebrush in Bush’s head than in the desert.

For those who think grades are indicative of intelligence (not really): http://www.insidepolitics.org/heard/heard32300.html

“I do know that in 2008 a VP candidate stated that Obama would be such a wimp and empty suit of a president it would embolden Russia to invade.”

True. Now here’s something similar to chew on, and yes, it involves GWB:

During the campaign of 2000, people would ask me why I supported Gore. I truly did not, but I noted that GWB had spent $74 million before the first vote was cast in the Iowa caucuses. My contention was that if he could spend that much that soon, our treasury would likely be bankrupted. I also stated that if I was a terrorist, and I was convinced that the person occupying the White House was a complete buffoon, I’d be emboldened to strike. I said at the time I hoped I was wrong. I daresay I was not.

Now we can come to two conclusions: one is that if given enough time, a monkey with a typewriter can quote Shakespeare. The other is that I deserved to be VP just as much (or more) than Sarah Palin. Which do you prefer?

Bush painted Afghanistan and Iraq in blood, their innocent bystanders as well as our troops. That those social failings in the toon are also a result of his (and previously his dad’s and Reagan’s policies) isn’t exactly “exceptional” either.

You are obviously a student of history, and have an ability to soundly interpet current events, certainly better than I. Your last sentence of paragraph 1 reminds me of something I read long ago. “Sometimes it is the stronger man that does not strike back.”

I’m not fan of those rankings that pretend to measure health or happiness, or well being with a number, but the US is not what it used to be.
