Sounds like my area school district. People have always had to have passing grades and passing citizens ship, but now parents and students think if a kid shows up one day a term and gets an A they should be able to pass and move on cause they already know everything.
If they already know everything they shouldn’t be taking that class. School isn’t just about getting a passing grade with as little attendance as possible, it is also about learning social skills and interacting with others. I’ve seen some at home schooled kids and while they are very far ahead of their classmates of the same age they have no clue how to interact socially and are very awkward and make no friends.
This is just like that time when a principal caught a student throwing paper airplanes out of a school window. But the principal was so impressed with the distance that the paper airplanes flew that he let the student off on the condition that he gave the airplane designs to the principal.
