♪♫♫♪OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING, ♪♫♫♪ OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY ♪♫♫♪ (Yep, it’s gonna be a BEAUTIFUL day, we’re already at 64 degrees with a bright yellow sun in the sky!)
Down along the Rio Grande they have these ropa warehouses. Inside they have bins of used clothing in big piles. Customers paw through the piles looking for items that they want to purchase. I went on a spur of the moment cruise and bought a blazer to wear at the Captain’s dinner.
Vimy Ridge Day is an annual observance on April 9 to remember Canadians who victoriously fought in the battle of Vimy Ridge in northern France during World War I. The day is also known as the National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
Although even I didn’t know today was Vimy Ridge Day, my grandfather fought at Paschendale, another battle of WW I. However that battle was infamous for Canadians, as we lost so many lives there. My Grandfather survived solely due to the fact that when his battalion marched on Paschendale, he was held back due to open abscesses on his feet from standing knee deep in the trenches. His entire battalion was wiped out.I had a teacher in Grade 10 who wrote a poem about Vimy Ridge. Unfortunately, I don’t remember it.
I understand that Vimy Ridge marked the day Canadians came into their own in the great War and were the heros of that battle. I have always been proud of our boys. An uncle of mine was killed in battle there.
Shika, now I remember Vimy Ridge, from one of the war movies I have seen. I am a big history buff, but over the years, I don’t have time anymore. I used to read history all the time. Thanks for reminding me what this day means! I wish all of us could remember what our soldiers, nurses, etc. in the military have done to keep us safe and free to carry on. My mom and hubby, and many relatives have served over the years in various wars.
