Since caring for veterans is a cost of war, the VA should be part of the military budget. -The military has massive amounts of lobbying and bribes campaign contributions. The VA has virtually none.
Hey, you join the military and you don’t have a say on what war you want to fight or if it is"just." LBJ crippled and killed a lot more with his lies that got us into Vietnam but you never hear of that because he was a democrat.
I have a number of friends who have higher level amputations than in the ‘toon, who can’t use prosthetics, even the “new and improved”, which ARE a result of VA and the military greatly improving mobility, at very high cost for the “high tech”.
The military and VA doctors actually have said that with the damage my son sustained to his foot, he might have actually been “better off” with a prosthetic than what remains of his real foot.
But of course the real points are: 1. NIxon ran the Viet Nam war (mine) longer than Johnson did, and 2. Because of Bush’s actions and frauds in Afghanistan and Iraq, the REAL cost through 2050 for these “wars” will run up to around SIX TRILLION DOLLARS, not to mention the pain, suffering, and physical and mental impacts on our troops, who yes, unlike Bush and Cheney, and the chickenhawks, DID “volunteer” to serve their nation, whenever, and wherever, called to duty.
Clinton and Obama never served a day in our military and still felt that they had the answers as they ordered military intervention. We haven’t had a real “Commander and Chief” since Eisenhower.
^And Nixon was in the navy in WWII. Carter was in the navy. Bush I was a pilot in WWII. -Bush II and Clinton dodged the draft, as did Cheney, Phil Gramm, Dan Quayle, etc.
1opinion: a note, VA should NOT be run by the military! It was the military that “lost” my records of injuries and medical treatment when in service. It was the MILITARY that has denied my son and several others in Iraq/Afghanistan era their rightful claims by LYING about their service or denying them proper continuing support, while VA has been supportive of them. The “Pentagon” doesn’t want their costs run up by what they’ve done to our troops, after all, it might cut into what they can give to contractors, who they plan to go to work for when they retire from the miitary!

Bush risked his life in his day, of course. Those dental x-rays he got at the National Guard can be risky.

^If Eisenhower ran today, he would do so as a Democrat and you would hate his guts.

That is spelled “moron” and name a president since Eisenhower who really knew what he was doing with our military?
grimmer about 11 years ago
No one was sent into Vietnam as combat troops until LBJ did so in 1965. We had advisors there in the late 50’s under Eisenhower.

I say we go down to Texas, dig up LBJ, re-elect him president, and then impeach him.
