The law WAS stupid, almost as stupid as the people it was aimed at! BTW, why is it you can’t even find a “small” size at most fast food places today???
The law was perfectly reasonable. Discourage people from drinking too much sugar by limiting the size, but let them have full freedom by letting them buy six if they want; but at least they’d be acknowledging to themselves that they have a sugar problem. It would have had a positive impact on health, and saved the state money. And the reason that you can’t find a “small” size is because they don’t make as much money on those, and discontinued them, of course. As for lawyers getting rich, that isn’t just a Democratic thing, rock. The GOP has upped the amount spent on lawyers defending the unconstitutional Defense of Marriage Act from 2.75 million to 3 million.
Stuff like banning smoking in public places. If people don’t want to be around smoke, they shouldn’t go to bars. Or restaurants. Or to work. And warning labels? Can you believe it!-And all those safety things in cars! Seat belts, airbags, padded dashboards, bumpers not designed to inflict damage in accidents.-Building codes! Did you know that they actually force people to construct buildings so that they don’t fall down?-And all those stupid water purification requirements. If people wnat to drink water with chemicals and microbes, who is the stupid Nanny State to tell them they can’t?-And those endless, endless food regulations. They force food manufacturers to actually tell you what’s inside the can. The manufacturers have had to change their labels at who knows what expense. And OMG they have to pasteurize everything. Why can’t they just let us buy stuff and take our chances?-And do you know that they want children to get vaccinations? All of them! I say their natural immunities will fight smallpox, diptheria, typhoid, and all the rest. Imagine how strong the survivors will be.-Each and every one of these categories is a very very slippery slope. It is absolutely correct to cry ‘Nanny State’ any time any regulation is proposed, particularly if it costs any businesses money (especially campaign donors) or if it is meant to improve the health of citizens.
But seriously, the Governor is no Democrat (or “Lib”) and the judge that overturned it is a Democrat (or so I’ve heard) so what is Ima going on about? …oh yeah… it’s Ima.
No, you can have your own opinion, but you can’t have your own facts. He left the Democratic party to become a Republican in the early 2000’s and became an Independent later when he couldn’t stand being in the same party as G.W. Bush… Now that last part is just my opinion, the rest is fact. See, I know the difference; try working on that.I’ve been reading a little about him, and it turns out, he’s more progressive than I realized. I still don’t agree with him on quite a few things and this drink cup issue is one of them. People should be discouraged from consuming so much sugar, put this isn’t going to help. By the way, it is a “local issue” and the Federal Government should stay out of it except to be sure they (the Feds) are not doing anything counterproductive.
