I hate to be a neigh-sayer but this subject is getting too much attention.

    Pfft! Amateurs!

South Africa managed to slip in donkey, goat & water buffalo into their beef. Now, if only they had slipped in springbok, zebra, eland or kudu……

I think people like to know what they’re eating. We could eat dogs and cats too, but I think most people would be horrified to know they were doing so.

“Generally speaking, people don’t eat carnivores.”

Generally speaking, maybe, but pigs are omnivores (of course, a large portion of humanity considers pork taboo). Poultry will eat bugs and worms if they can (“insectivore” may not be “carnivore,” but it sure ain’t “herbivore” either). And we eat the big fish which eat the little fish…

And, of course, there ARE some cultures which have no problem with eating dogs or cats.
