So what the hell happened to Irving’s parents? Did they get burned in the Enron scandal or a mortgage foreclosure due to a baloon payment clause??

Yet they are doing nothing to change their situation, other than complain and be a pain in the behind. I would do the same as Cathy and just walk away.

FIL must have a retirement pay. They both receive SS. At their age, they must have some savings. Is their house really taken back by the bank, or is it just empty? Seems to me they still had the house when they first moved in with C & I, they just left it to live rent free with C & I.

I suspect the in-laws are still solvent but using the recession/depression as an excuse to freeload. Their net worth probably dropped as it did for most people but they are over-reacting and besides – free food, free lodgings, free entertainment, and servants to do their work. Sounds like a good deal from their point of view. Now if only Cathy and Irving would develop a spine!
