Well, here’s one woman who doesn’t care a whit about it. In fact, I always tell my husband if he buys me candy, he’d better buy it the day after when it’s half price. But the past few years I have specifically told him NOT to buy any at all.

It’s an invited holiday like all the rest. But most people want to belong to the social mores of our society so better buy that gift or at least make a nice card. Happy Monday all.

We celebrate it with our kids now. So…just another day really. Except that we get to order in dinner! :)

I had a conversation with an old friend on this subject a few years ago. He and his wife were then well into their eighties. He told me that they no longer bought presents for the big holidays.

“At our age,” he told me, “if there’s something we want or need, we get it now. We might not be here when the next birthday / anniversary / Christmas comes along.”

I thought it was a very sound, practical statement – and their marriage was loving, happy and solid as a rock.

If I buy my wife chocolates I have to eat them as she has a sensitivity to dairy products amongst other foods. Hmmm – I do like chocolate so maybe . . .

Since wishful thinking rarely gets anyone anywhere, this guy needs to heed Cathy’s advice, err on the side of caution and do something nice for his wife/girlfriend on Valentine’s Day . . . otherwise, he’s probably going to be in really big trouble if he doesn’t!!!!! ;-)

    Hi, rgcviper!

lightenup: Tough night last night, wasn’t it? Not exactly the AFC Championship team I watched play all season last year. I just felt so bad for my boy, Peyton. We’ve been following his career and rooting him on ever since he played for the University of Tennessee. Well, better luck next year, I guess. As for Seattle, my congratulations to them on winning the Super Bowl. They played an absolutely tremendous game and is well-deserving of the Vince Lombardi Trophy [still wish it could have been the Broncos though!].

Hello and Happy Monday, fellow “Cathy” fans! Feeling a little blue today because of our loss last night but I’ll get over it. After all, it’s only a game. ;-)

I like Cathy’s analogy there. I think it might be smarter to celebrate the day after though – much easier to find a restaurant.
