I dunno; I kind of miss the days when you could pop the hood and actually see the engine, and perform most routine maintainance with a screwdriver, pliers, adjustable wrench, plug wrench, and a timing light. They’re even hiding the battery on some now where you can’t change it without tearing half the front end apart.

“They finally wised up” and it was about time!(Thank you Mr. President).- Much more efficienct these days, Mr. Zig. A new set of wheels would be well worth the savings in fuel and all the time it takes to pump it, alone. I can see you in a new little Fiat, Volkwagen Bug, or Smart Car.(Zig would end up with the ‘smart arse’ car GPS, no doubt) either way,..$crap the dinosaur, man!

They have so much electronic “stuff” now, no one can work on their own cars; have to go to a shop if one little thing goes wrong. This is a conspiracy if you ask me. Yeah, some of the new stuff is nice, but oh boy, when it goes, everything goes! Plus, I get LESS mileage with my brand new 2013 auto than I did with my 13 year old car!

If they ever create an engine that works as well, I’ll consider the car. Especially if it doesn’t cost more!

The only thing I can’t do anymore on my ’48 Chevy in the picture here is change the oil or tranny fluid. Sits too low to the ground ! Everything else is no problemo !

The thing about being able to work on the old cars was that you were working on them all the time. I had a 58 ford side step pickup with a straight 6 in it and I was forever working on it or in the shop.
