Ahhh the new math. If X is twenty feet away with a small caliber weapon and Y is thirty feet away with an automatic. X hits the target 80% of the time but has had too much coffee. Y is a 95% …………….
Always hated math problems that didn’t have all of the variables included. Mr. Stahler could have made this a much more interesting cartoon with more information. The answer to the question won’t be solved until we figure out the value of “Y” (why).Respectfully,C.
If one million political cartoons about gun violence are disseminated to fifty rigidly and unwaveringly opinionate people who read them, how many minds will be changed?
Ain’t it the sign of a great society when we argue about how many guards with how much weaponry we want in elementary schools? Now that’s civilization for you!!!
As Mr. Trout points out, a 12 guage shotgun with 00 buckshot makes a great defensive weapon. The shell is loaded with 38 caliber shot which can kill at a range of over 100 yards. A colonel in Korea covered the retreat of his men with a pair of personal shotguns which his aide kept loading. The colonel was rewarded by the Medal of Honor. I don’t recall the Chinese body count but it was over 200.
Hey, I have got an idea for all of the gun lovers on these boards. Why don’t we have a government program to arm ever single citizen of the us (including the children). On top of that everybody is given western style gun holsters. No more concealed weapons.
Of course this would also help with any over population problems we might experience.Heck, every fender bender could then be a potential shoot out!
Of course, the rest of the non wild west “civilized” world (well, maybe except for the Middle Eastern religious fanatics that hate us anyway) would then simply refuse to work with us, or even to trade with us, perhaps solving our employment problem, and our trade balance problem, all at the same time as we would then have to make only our own goods!
I know this sounds crazy and stupid in a liberal way, but it is not much more in that direction than the NRA and the gun lobby people sound to any thinking person. Especially, when they state that outlawing military style weapons is taking away the peoples second amendment rights!!
Robert: you should know by now I’m FOR regulation, and NOT for the NRA “solution”.
It’s 9 .32 caliber pellets in a 12 gauge 00 shell by the way, and at twenty feet, gives about a four inch “pattern” that will literally “blow a man away”, as I proved to an FNG one night on guard duty when we had a “little problem” with folks coming through our wire. He was convinced "nothing will stop those “guys” (another “G word” was used) on drugs attacking us". WRONG!
Also, note I was specific to a LONG barreled shotgun.
My experiences, in combat situations, and law enforcement, are what form my opinions with regard to firearms, or other weapons, NOT the NRA, or folks who “talk big”, but think, “very little”.

Those who don’t know, underestimate the power of a 12 gauge shotgun, long barrel, with 00 buckshot. I finally agree with Scott on something.

The correct answer is 1.

A free country shouldn’t need its schools to be “hard targets.” It should make it impossible to own the tools to kill mass numbers of citizens.
