“It is too soon.”This ‘toon could well relate to many of the other tragedies that we’ve endured. Too soon, no in terms of gun control and mental health availability it’s inexcusably late.
So as usual, we will pass another law and that will fix everything? No, it’s just the American political tradition of a quick fix that will appease the uproar from the people and do nothing to address the underlying problem…
Stupid ’toon. Fewer guns = more carnage. You have to live in a fantasy world to believe that. If you want to see how a society functions when everyone is heavily armed, look at Iraq.
Your egotism and arrogance totally negates any message you might be trying to impart. In effect screaming at people calling them evil, “murder ers” and the myriad of other insults you heap on people just makes you another judgmental voice with no credibility in the argument. You talk about approving of a cartoonists work as if they have to pass your criteria for credibility. What you fail to realize is people that actually matter in such issues discount you as just another extreme in the argument. I’m sure this falls on deaf ears since you seem so self absorbed you are impervious to any opinion other than your own…
Respectfully and because of the sensitive nature of recent events allow me draw you a picture: if you were going to design a video game where the object was to slaughter as many as possible w/ no fear of resistance, you’d name it “GUN FREE ZONE.”
Dr. C. Since you are going to put this on a logic level (and statistical) lets look at this. 100 million people own guns. A very, very minute percentage of those people abuse firearms and in particular the Newtown kind of genocide. That doesn’t excuse the shooter or denigrate the heinous nature of his crime. He also belongs to a minute percentage of the mentally ill that are violent to others. All this discussion of cause and effect being numerically bandied about here goes both ways. Obviously we need better gun control. I have posted ad nauseam many controls and procedures that cover background checks at gun shows, storage and training issues amongst others. Unfortunately I see a sales ban on these guns will probably be likely. I’m a libertarian and I abhor government control, it is the absolutely last resort IMHO. One website (actually anti-gun) states there are over 4 million assault rifles in the U.S. 310 million guns in total. What degree of gun control do we go to for assault weapons? Confiscation? Banning the sale? Special licensing? California did that years ago. I wish I could believe any of these actions would prevent this kind of horrible crime from happening again. This kid was refused purchase of a gun, so he stole his mother’s, obviously not well secured. I fear this will be a knee jerk reaction to an incredibly complex problem…
I think 34 million Americans own guns. The other statistic bandied about is 90 guns for every 100 people. Like cats, most owners have more than one, but not me, one of each is enough.

Anyone who thinks that more guns are the solution to gun violence is insane and shouldn’t have guns.

I looked through this list of 10 most popular video games and low and behold, one wasn’t pure blood and guts violence. Seriously, look these over.
