Actually, Boehner has proposed closing a number of known loopholes in the tax system as an alternative to a tax hike. []His logic is that by closing the loopholes, the government will collect the same amount of tax revenues as a hike would.

“….No one is stopping the ‘rich’ democrats from paying extra taxes ….”.The last bastion of the freeloading conservative nut-cases. You give all your money to the government and I’ll keep all of mine.

“No one is stopping the ‘rich’ democrats from paying extra taxes but I have yet to see it happen.”-You seem to have mistaken the government for a charity.

Closing loopholes as an alternative to raising the tax rate is code for no tax increases. Raising the tax rate (or allowing tax reductions to expire) is simple and can be done quickly and effectively. Overhauling the tax code could take years while they debate crossing the t’s and dotting the i’s.

Eliminate “deductions”, all but the mortgage deduction for your actual home/residence, and 99.999999% of the tax codes would be gone. Now keep the actual “taxes” and you’ve retained 5 pages, and hugely increased revenues, with only a 4% increase in current maximum rate on the over $250 K crowd.

Boehner proposes bringing in less than half what Obama calls for over ten years. Just the F-35 cancellation would save nearly twice the entire Boehner “increase”… Yes, there are very valuable “government programs”, that save our planet, and our people, but Boehner only wants to save profit for his corporate, and “private”, partners.

Repbulican paranoia has increased terribly in the last three decades, as note the absurd vote against a simple U.N. treaty to try to provide a semblance of caring for persons with disabilities around the world. “Isolationists” reigned prior to both WW 1 and WW II, but profit today is in “mini-wars”, preemptively entered into, and that’s okay with those same “conservatives” who can’t stand the thought of caring for people, or peace.

HQ get off your high horse…the regular people are not envious of the rich, we just want them to do what’s fair…they didn’t get rich on their own, they got rich off the backs of the regular folks who work for them and buy their products…we’re just asking for them to pay their fair share of taxes to help pay for things that help us out a bit.I’m tired of working so hard and barely get a paycheck and benefits but yet they sit on their butts making more and more money…

To all those who are saying if you tax the rich they can no longer afford to pay employees, It is personal taxes being discussed. Businesses are not in the discussion. Employees are paid by the business they work for not their bosses. If they take more of their money and put it in their business they have lower taxes.

Darren Blair said, “Actually, Boehner has proposed closing a number of known loopholes in the tax system…”

He proposed it but he’d never ever DO it. It’s just talk.-Actually, Boehner never proposed anything. He said he was willing to accept closing ‘some’ loopholes in exchange for tax rates on the rich not going up. He never named even one supposed loophole.-Standard technique for Boehner. In the campaign of 2010 he said Republican were going to cut spending, but never named a single cut. Ever.-Boehner also knows that tax RATES are very visible and difficult to change, while tax loopholes are easy to work back into the tax code with little, if any, visibility.-The entire Republican goal here is to protect the interests of the wealthy.

“Obama has said millionaire line to many times and you believe him, yet reality it is those making 200,000 who he is targeting. He was saying 1% now after the election 2% "-Actually those making 200,000 will pay EXACTLY the same as they are paying now. (I think it’s 250,000 anyway)Those making OVER 200,000 will pay slightly more ONLY on the amount OVER 200,000.-If you believe this tax amount is wrong, fine, but stop distorting the figures to make it look like the 200,000s will be paying more.-They won’t.

Jack up their taxes but give them deductions for investing within the US. That way they can only whine if they’re keeping their money off shore, in which case, they deserve to be taxed to the teeth.

Flat taxes are a very bad idea.

I’m a Liberal, AND an Atheist, but, I treat people the way they treat me; furthermore, I love my family and if I had kids (Which I don’t), I would love them like any parent; I usually admire your posts C, but, to say that just cause I don’t believe in the collection of fairy tales called the bible, that somehow it means I have no compassion, or humanity? That is a terrible thing to say about anyone.

Nice non-response.-When you don’t have an answer, just revert to more distortion.

You should ask NeoConMan. He would say, keep the subsidies to business, but cut welfare. Why support people who don’t work? That just encourages them not to work. If they have no other recourse, then we can force them to work for the wages paid in Bangladesh — and look we can bring jobs back to the US!
