GOP: “If we cannot have a Republican president, then we will take our marbles and go home! We will never compromise! Ignore the facts! God loves only us.”
Real “Republicans” and/or “conservatives” have been moved from the threatened list under Reagan, to endangered under “W”, and if Romney had “scored”, extinct.
Republicans feel left out and ignored. They wish all Americans loved and agreed with them. Further, to be honest, their opponents try to separate them from any group which might otherwise support them. This is easy since their number includes fiscal conservatives, religious conservatives, social conservatives, racists, xenophobes, militarists and a few other groups that somebody is bound to find irritating.
It’s interesting that when a thoughtful cartoon about the necessity of uniting our fractured nation appears, liberals can only make insulting comments about the half (48%) of the nation that did not vote for the current president. That’s precisely the mindset that makes understanding this colonial American image so vitally crucial today.
If uniting the country still results in legislation that further hurts the country, how is that progress? Not to be silly, but Hitler “united” his country. I’m just thinking that somehow we need legislation that allows people to choose their own courses of action. Yes, I know – never gonna happen.
@DrCanuck – ??? Your response is silly and insulting. Comments like that further divide. I’m simply pointing out that uniting for a cause everyone believe in is fine, but uniting just to feel good is not productive and can is fact cause further division over time.
@DrCanuck – Not true – The example was to encapsulate the idea that unification by itself is not always a good idea. I simply cited the most obvious example. There are plenty of other examples. So, to return to the subject at hand, can we cite ways that each side can move toward unity that we can all live with. And these ideas need to be in the context of each sides guiding ideas – Dems – taxing and forced redistribution of resources, Rebubs, keeping taxes in control and allowing individual freedom. Once again, I am simplifying, but just trying to point out the obvious conflict of goals that hinder unification.
