Been to Charleston, an interesting city, and so much is represented by that island, Ft. Sumpter.
What concerns me about the current “leadership” in the House, and the neocon efforts to steal all that is “ours”, as a nation of taxpayers and citizens, that Sharuniboy mentions, for their personal profit. The assault on our national natural resources is even more ferocious than in the 1870’s when railroad grants, the Mining Acts, and “expansion” sought to steal them away.
When the Yosemite was recognized by Abraham Lincoln as a national public treasure (1865), and later, when the Yellowstone was made our first “National Park” in 1872 people in those times recognized the threat, and sought to “protect and defend” public lands.
Charleston, and Ft Sumpter, represent those modern day “rebels”, attacking the nation as a whole, and with no compunction about who they will place in slavery.
As a person who has been honked, flipped off, and cursed at in at least eighteen states, i feel endangered. Please, be kind to us. We do not understand your traffic patterns and your arcane usage of signage and signals. We want to…truly…but we are tourists and we are confused.We bring money, we will buy your things, then we will go away and not bother you again until next season.Just watch yourself when you’re in MY section of….n/m. drain bamage again.C
In my hometown of Virginia Beach, people run red lights with impunity. The amount of time the light has been red is not an issue. Therefore, people slow down for green lights, looking for people running the red.
When I drove a taxi in Boston, I learned important rules that apply only to Boston, but must be understood if one wants to survive the trip:1. Green means go.2. Yellow means go.3. Red means go.4. Red and Yellow together is a sign for pedestrians to cross. This means go, but look first.5. They put up stop and yield signs because they look so artistic, not because they say anything.6. He who hesitates could be there all friggin’ day.7. When I was there in the late ’70s, they had “no-fault” car insurance. This means that no matter whose fault, your car was repaired by your insurance company. Despite, or maybe because of, the enormous premiums you had to pay to get insurance, people felt no reason not to use their cars as weapons.
