When my friend and I visited in November of 1999, we stayed in Monterosso, and it was blissfully quiet. Instead of tourists, it was filled with those who actually lived there. They didn’t even speak much English! Dark cliffs, turquoise water, local cusine. sigh It is among my favorite memories of Italy…

This is a long vacation for a couple who are supposedly not very well off. Quite The novelty of this Euro theme tour wore off a long time ago and now this strip is getting monotonous.

I’m bored with this already, it’s time to bring this 3-month tour home.

For two people who don’t have a pot to p*** in, they sure are spending a lot of money! A “short, cheap” trip to Europe would NOT include EVERY major country or region. I should try to get a part-time job in a library, if it allows one to see ALL of Europe.

Traveling like they are is a lot more fun than plopping one’s posterior down at a resort….

Better to hang out for a while in an ethnic neighborhood of any of our large US cities (with enough age). Newer cities and smaller are homogenized and have none. I studied Spanish not in school but by buying the books and “interning/working free” at a souvenier shop in Chicago’s Latin neighborhood.
