The last I knew, this country had it’s share of wealthy Dems also. Regardless, the next time you or yours need employment, try asking the guy on welfare for a job and see how that works out for you.
What’s the old saw?
One taxes and spends, the other borrows and spends.
Either way future generations are stuck with the check.
You know the banks are paying the money back already. I found this interesting. It took them less than a year to get it together, and I bet it was the incentive of bonuses. Since they had government money they couldnt get the bonuses and so pulled it all together so that they could get the government off their boards. So clearly government intervention in the banking system worked, and the clear incentives that they created (no bonuses until you get it sorted) also worked. So to all who worry about government take over can now take their heads out of their butts and realize that it actually helped.
And the other lesson we can learn from this is that banks and companies all work under the same system of incentives and even if they find them unfair or whatever, it clearly worked, so we should apply this lesson the EPA regulations. FINE POLLUTION, just like they fined the bankers with no bonuses and the results will speak for themselves!
I think what it really tells us is that TARP and Stimulus were not needed. They just wasted lots of money. Now, we hear that returned money from the banks is going to go into a Democratic slush fund for future elections, instead of paying down the debt as was PROMISED BY OBAMA.
Many of the banks were forced to take the money so gov’t could get more control. They didn’t need it. Whether it was car companies banks or whatever, the well run companies would have survived and the poorly run companies wouldn’t. Bush, McCain, and particulaly Obama should have stayed out of running private business.
Sadly, the big banks bought the failed banks and will make loads from those deals while not loaning money to small businesses. They are beginning the same tactics all over again. More foreclosures in the works.
@a.c.d. - A lot of the banks “magically” came up with that money by raising the rates on their loans and credit cards to somewhere near 30%. Citibank is one.
Super low unterest rates at the expense of many that save there money and higher fees helped the banks come back strong not there brilliant investing skills.
The “payback” scam is just to restore their bonuses.
Anyone with basic, VERY basic math skills can look at the accumulation, GROWTH of the national debt under Reagan and Bush 41, added to the debt accumulated under Bush/Cheney, and see that nearly 12 of the 13 TRILLION dollars in debt was attributed to those “thrifty” dudes. Four hundred percent increase under Reagan + 41, yet another smaller 24% increase under Clinton because of a Republican Congress and “Contract ON America”(he still almost balanced his last annual budget), then another doubling of the debt under “W” and Cheney– it’s just a simple, provable, undeniable FACT folks!!!
Roger, just go to the almanac, or other sources and see what the national public debt has been since 1978, and see for yourself the simple numbers that show who ran up the debt.
I certainly do NOT hate America, but do hold some contempt for the thieves and liars who shift blame at every turn, call them “neocons”- not Americans OR “Republicans”.
^ answer to first question, is, yep, at a certain point, Bush/Cheney quite knowingly created problems for the next president and a few after that, in areas of “national security.” Stuff that if it ever comes out, won’t happen for 75 years or so and can’t be de-classified by any incoming president until then.
^ nope, truth be told. You think Bush/Cheney didn’t figure out a way to make sure no incoming president could reveal their dirty BIG secrets without violating some existing interpretation of the Constitution? Get real. Obama’s stuck having to continue some “national security” policies. He has no choice without violating the oath of office he took. Bush/Cheney were masters of the dark side.

I’m more inclined to believe that huge bag is really debt from years of Reganomics, and the last 8 years of W & Crew.
Clinton left a surplus that W & crew quickly turned into tax cuts for the rich and also started the biggest spending program on borrowed money.
