As Don Imus pointed out years ago: if Jesus had jewish parents, how come he has a Puerto RIcan name?

Comic or not, this shows irreverance towards the diety of Jesus Christ. I didn’t find this comic humorous or entertaining at all.

The nice thing about comics is they can play “What if?” It doesn’t have to hew to theology - because it’s not a sermon. Next thing you know some of these guys will be issuing a ‘Christian Fatwa’ against the cartoonists who offend their religious views.

It’s a comic strip, people. A comic strip. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

People should be reverent on Christmas and watch “Life of Brian.”

Look on the bright side of life.

It’s not “just a comic”, it’s a comic that is intentionally irreverent. Blazek deserves whatever criticism he gets; he pretty much asked for it. Why do you guys feel the need to defend him?

@theR0nin It’s called “Free Speech”. It’s what let’s you make your comment without stormtroopers smashing down your door to haul you away. As a friend of mine used to say, “Democracy means having to live with things which really p* you off.”

And if you want irreverence with respect to religion, try Mark Twain.

I don’t think the joke backfired at all, but then I also love what George Carlin said once about religion:

“Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it, religion has actually convinced people that there’s an INVISIBLE MAN…LIVING IN THE SKY…who watches every thing you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten special things that he does not want you to do. A lot of you folks seem to have gotten your tinsel in a tangle over a lot of not much. It’s a joke, people, you don’t have to like it, but then again you don’t have to read it now or ever again. Get over yourselves, and ask God for a sense of humor the next time you pray.

Man, some beings are so controlling. Have to nonsexually knock up chicks, pick the gender, pick the name, pick their destiny. Ever hear of free will, big guy?

@ CoBass, I’m not claiming it’s the worst irreverence… Twain and Carlin don’t mean that you can’t complain about anyone else. As for free speech, people are allowed to criticize you for what you say. You have the right to express yourself, and so do your critics. Just because it’s “artistic expression” doesn’t automatically make it worthwhile, nor does it make it off-limits to critics. That was kind of my point. You guys want to champion Blazek’s “right” to offend, but shout down anyone who expresses their disapproval. I don’t think you understand what free speech means.

I wonder what makes the people who keep reminding us that this is a comic strip think that we are required to talk of nothing else.

And I wonder what makes anyone believe any iota of any of the world’s absurd holy books.
