“After everything we’ve done for you.” I about died reading that. But it is how the public/media/government views the situation isn’t it? I would be doubly pissed if I were an Afghan soldier than just a civilian–“you say I haven’t been trying yet?! I’ve been fighting insurgents since I was 9!”

What can one do, everything handed to them on a plate, they’re simply just ungrateful, born ungrateful I’d say. Nothing at all one can do, nothing at all, tch. I blame their parents.

They’d step up pretty fast if we started burning their poppy fields.

Poppy fields are already being eradicated. But on the other hand, more alternative crops need to be encouraged and supported.
Want to get rid of the poppy fields? Remove demand, sort out your addicts.

Actually, I assume the drone in the background is heading for Pakistan, where that “thug and murderer” Obama intends them…

“Oh when those poppy fields get rotten, can’t pick very much…” The British made this a key part of the economy of a nation with very little arable land.(12%) Invaders haven’t ever really done much for these folks, so after a few centuries they might be cynics? Rebuild what we destroyed, and help them get THEIR social structure back and functioning, even if it isn’t ours, and maybe they might be more amenable? Yes, they will take what we “give them” in the way of product, but what exactly do tort lawyers in the U.S. seek to achieve?(Okay, I don’t take it back, but I do know that personal profit is the real objective for them.)

Holy sh*t, I have to say, that’s a whole lot of dumbass comments. Where’s rikoshayrabbit when I need him? No wonder Mr. Rall hasn’t commented yet. I wouldn’t want to if I were him.
Hi? We destroyed what little infrastructure they had and killed one million of their people all while propping up an illegitimate dictator. Why aren’t they thanking us more?
Honestly, I really hope I’m not supposed to take omQ R seriously. My mind is reeling at the ignorance. Perhaps we think we are doing a lot for the people of Afghanistan, and we are ‘trying’ to do a lot for them I think, but the results matter more. I think that is Mr. Rall’s point here: that the American position must sound ridiculous to the Afghans. We invaded and occupied their country–without any invitation to do so I might add.
What it really comes down to is the general lack of empathy of racist American nationalists–whether they realize what they are or not. If another country invaded the United States to fix us, I can safely bet that it would be people like omQ R who would react most like his ‘ungrateful Afghans’ have.

^ Empiral Rationalist judged disdainfully: ”I really hope I’m not supposed to take omQ R seriously.”
sigh. No. Relax, dude. I’m on the same page as Rall here. Re-read my comments. I don’t have the gift of the written gab to convey sarcasm on paper (or digital typeface) and I most certainly don’t have any talent for cartooning. You do, however, have the gift of the missing-the-point entirely despite your nick on this forum; you’re just judging, not observing. Get off your high-horse. And join mine: My original reply directly after your own is supporting Rall. My poppy comment was a reply to arjayjay’s ridiculous comment about burning their poppy fields (which may be in itself a caustic sarcastic comment!). I stressed it was already being done. (there is a url link under the “poppy fields” in my comment above. Click on it, go on, try it) And what did I suggest after providing the link? Try re-reading it.
And I’m not a racist American, I’m a racist South African. Portuguese. In Britain. Hope that helps. Now, shhh, I’m on your side, relaxxx.

Maybe if the Afghans went back to producing high-quality hashish instead of opium, like they were famous for in the pre-Soviet days, that would be a more acceptable agricultural substitute.
