These games should never have happened, due to covid. She’s an outstanding gymnast and so are all the others. Pressure can do a number on some. Good for you, Simone, for not caving to the trolls and pressures.
I wonder when Simone became aware of her lack of positional awareness. This was one of the qualities that set other gymnasts apart from her, that she was aware of where she was anywhere in her tricks. Without it, she could experience serious injury. I wonder if the one year postponement had anything to do with its loss.
A former coach who sexually preyed on the young girls under his “care”. Dealing with issues from her being Black. Working god knows how many hours per day on her craft while being in school, trying to fit in friends and family. Nope, no pressure…/s
She described her problem as the “twisties” which is similar to the “yips.” Is that truly a mental health problem? Could be because it is based upon mental control.
I don’t follow sports at all, but some things just trickle into “real” news.
I see that some star athlete (tennis?) has cancelled some press conferences for reasons of mental health. I say good for her—she doesn’t owe anything to anyone.
I see that some star gymnast has cancelled her participation in the Olympics because she has a feeling of not being able to complete some moves that, if not done exactly right, could leave her terribly damaged and/or hurt her team’s scores. To her, I would say, good for her, and that’s just common sense and good judgment.
I see where Miss Biles is getting hate and discontent from people that the closest they ever came to an athletic event is buying athletes foot meds at Walmart.

Unfortunately, the people who most need to learn this are the ones who won’t pay any attention.

Good for her and Ms. Osaka. No one should sacrifice their minds and bodies for anything. BTDTGTTS.

But that great athlete Piers Morgan thinks she should die for the team. I doubt he could be on a team of anything as he is such a jerk.

I don’t see the “mental” health connection. Knowing the limits of your body does not mean you’re a nut case.

Look at today’s cartoon by Michael Ramirez for the hate that can be generated by a conservative point of view . . . on mental health.
