Like yesterday, Calvin finds some of his Mom’s rules hard to swallow. Before he finishes his milk, I hope he doesn’t spot a fly in Mom’s general direction.
There she blows!
Who hasn’t played around while drinking milk?
Morning Marg. Your new avatar is a real turkey. (And a nice-looking one, at that.)
In the next panel, Calvin does a spit take all over Mom.
He might spit it back into the glass and sip it afterwards just to show his mom what a good boy he is.
Oh boy! Does THIS bring back memories! One of the things that makes C&H such a delight is that Bill Watterson nailed the characteristics of most 6 year-old boys dead on target — and then pushed it a bit beyond.
ea some milk is will valuable with the body ,Calvin..^_^
I’ve been reading this strip for a while and now I finally have to ask:How do Hobbes, Marg and others know each other??
Marg, love it when you talk all kinky like that! :-)
Yesterday’s comments about childhood memories got me thinking (rare, but it happens!)… the reading material that really takes me back is the “William” books by Richmal Crompton – she understood the thought process of 11-year-old boys perfectly. I started reading them when I was 11 myself and don’t pass up a chance to indulge even now, if I have the time and the opportunity.
If Mom uses the ‘milk of human kindness’ instead of yelling, Calvin the Frog might turn into a prince …then again, maybe not!
“Plunk your magic twanger, Froggie!”
I thought that frogs went “Ribbit!” and not “Gloonk!”.
I have been friends with a group of posters outside of this forum for close to 3 years now. Lovely people. Some of us met at Winnie the Pooh, which sadly isn’t carried anymore.
As for Luann, it does get a lot of traffic. I find Luann a very cute strip, not a soap opera as Dogsniff said, but I sure can’t figure out how angry some of these posters get. The comments are ridiculous! I have just started to mainly read the strip and move on.
I don’t remember this particular Calvin & Hobbes, and I have the entire collection. I’ll have to go through my books I guess to find it. I love that frog! :-D
Maybe Mom should allow frog days. I used to let my kids slurp noodles and soup as long as the dishes were Chinese or Japanese. They’d ask if they could pretend if other soups were C. or J. but I laid the rule down there. I have to say this reminds me of younger son when he ate spaghetti, or stuffed the last *-(saving best for last) part of the best of Thanksgiving dinner (the marshmallows, of course) into his mouth. Calvin & Hobbes brings back the happiest moments of my life: life with my children at home.I’ve equivocated over joining for many months, maybe a year, and I saw that Hobbes, whose comments are witty and sometimes enlightening, is celebrating his first anniversary, so I just joined today.Hi Marg!Hi Tanya!Hi Hobbes!
I was wondering why there were no comments on Pibgorn. It is a bit provacative. as363 explained it.
<< Dogsniff wrote: “How’d I do creating a “Hobbesesque” style response?” >>Hi, DogsniffWell, it’s a start, but the whole thing still fits on one screen. And the avatar imitation could use a little work.By the way, you had a couple of Dogsniffesque comments this week that really cracked me up.Also by the way, to insert a blank line, type < followed by br followed by >And be sure to put those characters on a separate line by themselves. Can’t think of anything else to say, but I’m trying to respond in the style of your response.
as363: could you please give us the URL for that? I have missed the Chickweed/Pib discussions since then.
<< mythreesons wrote: “Why is C&H your only forum?” >>Hi, mythreesonsWell, since my name is Hobbes, I find that when I visit other comic strip discussions, I just can’t blend in totally unnoticed the way that I can here.:>)Seriously, I’m too busy to participate in more than one forum, and sometimes I leave this one for a week or more at at time. But I do try to catch up on the comments when I return.— Bill……..er, I mean “Hobbes.” Now see what you’ve done?
No, I was number 1 today, but usually I’m asleep at that time. When I’m awake in the middle of the night, I try to write things that will help others get to sleep. :>)
I might have known Calvin would do something like that.
I SWEAR I have seen this one before!!!
Gulping is fun.
Perfect mom, now you’re within range. Are you ready for your milk facial?
I’m so sorry, but I have not enough time to read all comments every day!!
Milk….it does a body good!
I like reading the comments. Some are really funny and sometimes better than the comic…lol also seeing the same names everyday kind of makes you feel like you know them…it’s nice.
happy anniversary Hobbes!!
This reminded me of my all time favorite (and grossest) C&H strip:http://www.gocomics.com/calvinandhobbes/1992/06/09
Go Boy Go!!! Get Hobbes to smooth down your hair and you’ll look just like the bullfrog when you turn green from holding all that milk in your mouth.
I think he’s working for the Cain campaign.
The first time I read this strip back in the 80s I found it so amusing I sprayed whatever I was drinking (possibly milk).
Calvin is just frogging around. Or maybe he had that milk with some Explodo-Pop cereal that just went off in his mouth….
Hi Sharuniboy. You’re welcome. Please feel free to ask questions about formatting on this site in the future. There are many people here who are happy to answer them for you. Sometimes just one little tip can save a lot of aggravation.
Ha. I love the visuals on this one..@dahawk:.I’m not sure whether I should laugh or retch after reading the comic whose link you posted. Yeah—I’ll definitely laugh! Good one.
Don’t say anything funny, or the milk will come out his nose!
Hobbes (the poster): Woohoo! I wasn’t online at all yesterday but as you can see, (today) I saw your post from yesterday and after 5 days of stress and aggravation, I now have a new avatar for November . . . all thanks to you! You were absolutely right: I wasn’t saving my images correctly, which is why I kept getting those error messages when I tried to change it. I just knew it had to be my computer-stupidness standing in the way of doing something so simple!!!!! Thanks again for all your help. I really appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!
Hi GretchensMom. Great news – glad you got it fixed.
If only they ran new comics…
Mom: “Calvin, will you stop that infernal gulping already?! You’re driving me crazy!”Calvin: “I’M driving you crazy? Or are you just blaming your own inner problems on me, just because I happen to be handy?!”(Calvin, having just been sent to his room): “Of course, I only meant that to be rhetorical.”
wow. just… wow.
i like the frog’s unimpressed face
