Back in the day, we didn’t have interactive game devices to blow things up and do lots of killing. We had to watch cartoons for that. Of course those same cartoons also gave us a really good introduction to classical music.

As I recall, the cartoons we watched had a fair amount of blowing up as well. Not to mention swearing . (“Rasselfrackin rasselfrackin rasselfrackin”)

You know the old NES, SNES, and SEGA games were full of blowing things up and killing things too. The only difference between now and then is that graphics are better. But if that’s the only reason to get upset, then kids shouldn’t watch most movies. Not talking about R movies. Even PG movies have death and destruction. They are just done in a more cutesy manner.

I know there are several schools of thought on games and violence… I was DM of a Dungeons and Drangons game for about 30 years (1978-2011). I had one player who was extremely violent in his role play. He was not in real life although he would talk a lot about doing violent things. I think doing these acts in a role play setting was a release that may have allowed him to ‘blow off steam’ without ever having to resort to actually doing anything that really was violent. I don’t have enough knowledge to present this as a fact of any sort, it is merely an observation by a college drop-out (three semesters, basic Psych/Soc starting courses), but I often thought I was glad my friend had this outlet for his anger.

A game with a special command you key in when someone is coming in. It freezes your game, so you can resume where you left off, and it show something with ponies,, puppydogs chasing sticks or some other such innocent stuff.

If it isn’t a feature now, it will be.
