Working Daze follows the employees trapped at MacroMicroMedia. MMM is a wanna-be software giant, and it's staffed by geeks and clueless management types. VP Rita will try anything that might make a little money (though her ideas usually don't.) Underpaid Dana carries he place and keeps it running, while overpaid Ed sleeps all day. Roy and Kathy are made for each other, and everyman Jay never knows when to keep his opinions to himself. Writer/creator John Zakour is a humor/sci-fi writer, whose work includes the Zach Johnson detective novels. Artist Scott Roberts was a longtime contributor to Nickelodeon Magazine, and is the author of the fantasy novel The Troubling Stone. John and Scott met when they both worked on the Rugrats newspaper strip.

Wait, if she can change things at will, why doesn’t she change rita into a genius? Or make herself the genius CEO with rita as her subordinate?

What a dumb question!

There are fundamental laws of magic. This is like in Harry Potter, when Harry and Ron ask Hermione why they’re starving in the woods. Why doesn’t she just create food out of thin air? Because there are certain things that cannot be made out of nothing, and food is one of them. So there are limits on what Dana can do, and making Rita smarter must be one.

Dana gets her powers as Office Manager. If she were CEO her powers would be lost.

She make Rita smartest person in the room once — by turning everybody else to plants.

Ever notice that most of the women in this strip are not very nice?

Sure, that’s a viable workaround. She made Rita smarter by comparison without actually changing her..

That’s because most women aren’t nice in the real world either!

I would argue that Dana is nice but frustrated. Carolina is nice but on her own planet. Rita thinks she’s nice she just happens to be clueless. This is a comic about the working world and its interactions — in most cases nice wouldn’t be funny or as relatable. Hence the reason most of the guys can be twits too. In fact two of the guys (Sal and Melvin) have no redeeming qualities at all. They are my Frank Burns / Neman characters, there so others can play off of their personalities quirks. The interesting thing in my mind at least is that why everybody in WD is flawed nobody is actually evil or a bad person. (Okay, accept maybe Melvin I really don’t like him.)

I think Kathy is nice; also, Sue is nice, too, although she seems a little insecure.

I don’t think anyone is powerful enough to turn Rita into a genius.

Ever heard of Lex Luthor? He’s a genius too, so is Doc Octopus. Made them better evil.

There are plenty of things in the forest to use to reconfigure to be food. Even the air itself.
