    Don’t worry, if it wakes you up, tell the neighbor. If it still wakes you up, eat it.

    You should live in the Philippines. I only have 857 roosters in the immediate vicinity with which to contend, and not a single, frikken one of ’em can tell time.

    @win

    I love the crow of a rooster in the morning.

    I would hate the sound of 857.

    When I was living in Austin, TX, a couple Hispanic families had chickens within city limits, and one was within half a mile from my apartment. Stupid rooster would crow all morning, every morning. I suspect I wasn’t the only one in the complex of 200+ renters that hated that thing.

    Funny thing is, after I ran this, the folks across the street left a basket of fresh eggs at my doorstep. They’d recently moved in (with chickens) and I was just looking for material. I actually like the sound of their rooster!

    I just found this strip and since I’m hoping to be moving south – way South – within the year, I figured it couldn’t hurt to get more familiar with southern/rural humor. Just went through the existing archive, and my ribs are aching ;-) Currently in the Catskills, so the rural part I have a handle on – including roosters, which, happily, I enjoy. As for the rest, judging from my recent road trip/exploratory (I learned about boiled peanuts – yum!) I think this move can’t happen too soon!

    I raised chickens at one time. One rooster would crow at about 2AM. Strange, considering chickens shut down completely when it’s dark. I guess he crowed in his sleep.
